Creator codes

Send buyers to the Vale, and get credited for them

Creators who talk about trading cards, books, and collectibles can hold a Verdant Vale creator code. When a buyer arrives through your code and buys, the sale is credited to you. The program is built on written agreements, one creator at a time.

What the program is

A creator code is an attribution code. It tells us which creator sent a buyer, so the revenue share in your agreement can be paid on the sales that land. The share rate, what it is paid on, and whether it is paid in store credit or cash are set in your written agreement, exactly as that agreement says. Nothing is promised on this page beyond what a signed agreement states.

A creator code never changes the price a buyer pays. It is not a coupon, it carries no discount, and there is no sale price hiding behind it. Prices at the Vale are the same with or without a code, for every buyer, every time.

Because there is no discount, creators never advertise one. Promoting a code as a way to save money misstates the program, and it is grounds for the agreement to end.

How attribution works

Your agreement gives you two things: your code, and your landing link. The link is any page at verdantvale.org with your code carried in the address as a creator parameter. A buyer can also type your code into the creator code box on the cart page by hand.

When a code applies, we record the code, the creator it credits, and the time it was applied, and the browser carries the code for 30 days in a cookie. The cart shows an applied code in plain sight before checkout, next to a line stating that prices are unchanged. Attribution records hold no buyer email address and no member account detail.

Attribution is how the share in your agreement is counted. It runs for the 30 days the cookie carries the code, and it starts fresh when a buyer applies a code again.

The disclosure duty

If you promote your code, the law and this program both require you to disclose the relationship wherever you promote it: in the post, the video, the stream, or the page, in a place your audience will actually see. A code shared without that disclosure does not meet the program terms.

Our house example of the line a buyer sees when a code applies:

Creator code: Verdant Vale tracks this code to credit the creator who sent you. Prices are the same with or without a code.

Your own disclosure to your audience is yours to word, as long as it plainly says that Verdant Vale tracks the code and may pay you for sales it credits.

Honest state of the registry

The registry opens creator by creator as agreements are signed. Until an agreement is signed, no code exists for that creator, and this page lists no partners because there are none to list yet. If you want to be one of the first, the door is open below.

Apply

Applications start at our collaboration page. Tell us where you publish, what you make, and who your audience is. A person reads every note. If we go ahead, the terms go into a written agreement first, and your code enters the registry only when that agreement is signed.
